The Power of Animal Therapy

Animal/Pet therapy refers to the use of animals as a way to help people cope with and recover from some physical, mental and behavioral health conditions.

Dog assisted therapy has proven to be a great option for many of our students on the farm. It builds on a concept called the human-animal bond, which describes people’s desire to interact with and relate to animals.

Ways this bond has improved our students behaviors:

  • Reduces boredom

  • Produces a calming state

  • Increases movement and activity through walks and play

  • Provides companionship and decreases lonliness

  • Improves mood and general well-being

Our pet therapy program enriches the lives of students, while preparing the puppies for their forever homes. Briar Patch Ranch breeds dogs for our therapy program with their health, temperament and potential skills in mind.

Dogs can be life changing, and in many ways life saving!
